The 2016 ACC Tournament started off just the way the Tar Heels wanted it to – in dominating fashion. The Heels jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in Blacksburg. With the 2016 ACC Tournament being held at Virginia Tech some felt as if the Hokies could give the Tar Heels a challenge on their home turf but that was not the case. When all was said and done the Tar Heels beat the Hokies 19-6.

The Heels jumped out to a quick 6-1 just 10 minutes into the game. Goals from McCool (2), Hazer, Hendrick, Devlin and Reed put the game away early. At halftime, the Tar Heels led 12-5 and were able to coast throughout much of the second half.

Molly Hendrick stole the show with four goals while Marie McCool added three more. Naomi Lerner and Alyssa Andress each notched their first goal of the 2016 season. Andress is a senior that has seen limited playing time in her career at UNC so it was great to see her get on the scoreboard in an ACC Tournament game.

The Tar Heels will take on Duke for a chance to play for the ACC Championship on Sunday. Earlier in the month UNC beat Duke 16-8 in a game that was complete domination. Hopefully we will see a repeat of that tomorrow.
