“Carolina has, I believe, the biggest upside for the 2015 year. The Tar Heels almost return their whole starting line-up excluding Serpe and Friend. Now add in the injured players who have been fine-tuning their stick work while rehabbing their injuries: Coppa, Tracy, Devlin and Holman will all impact the Heels and add depth to an already athletic team. Add in a great freshman class headlined by McCool, The Heels look to only have an upside after a disappointing end to the 2014 season.” -Kara Cannizzaro

Kara pretty much says it all. It is interesting that she mentions Kelly Devlin in this quote. Most around the program felt as if Devlin was going to have a breakout year last year before she went down to a season ending knee injury. Devlin towers over teammates and competitors at 5’10”. She started all 19 games as a freshman in 2012. She was the only freshman to start all the games of the 2012 season. Interestingly, Devlin was a defender during her freshman year and converted to a midfielder during her sophomore year.

She had the best games of her career when they mattered most in the 2013 Final Four. She had a goal in the national semifinal game versus Northwestern and added another goal against Maryland in the 2013 National Championship game. She also had three draw controls in the National Championship game versus Maryland.

Cannizzaro played two years with Devlin so if she mentions her along with Coppa and Holman we have to think she will have a fantastic year in 2015. Cannizzaro did not mention Alex Moore but I think she will be a contributor in 2015. It will be a fun year to watch women’s lacrosse games at Fetzer Field.
