For the first time since 2010, UNC women’s lacrosse head coach Jenny Levy was named ACC women’s lacrosse coach of the year. This should come as no surprise to anyone that follows women’s lacrosse. The Tar Heels were undefeated in regular season play capturing the ACC regular season title before heading into the ACC Tournament in Blacksburg, Virginia. In Blacksburg, the hobbled Tar Heels found a way to get through the toughest conference in America to claim the crown.
All year the Tar Heels have been decimated by injuries. The walking wounded include several preseason All Conference and All American members. When you lose Maggie Bill, Sydney Holman, Olivia Ferrucci and others and still win the ACC Championship, you are doing something right. Coach Jenny Levy and staff did an amazing job of keeping this team together as there were many times in which they could have succumbed to the fact that the best players were not on the field.
Since losing one goal decisions to Florida and Maryland early in the year, the Tar Heels have reeled off six straight one goal game victories. This includes two games in the ACC tournament. The Tar Heels are also riding a 13 game winning streak into the 2016 NCAA Tournament.
