Maggie Bill Leads UNC Over Northwestern

On a very cold day in Chapel Hill the Tar Heels and the Northwestern Wildcats slugged it out to see which dominant program was better in the regular season of 2015. The game was back and forth all day until Maggie Bill took over and gave the lead to the Tar Heels for good. Maggie Bill finished with three goals including the game winner with about four minutes remaining in the game.

Maryland Outshoots the Tar Heels and Wins 13-11

Well, we saw why Taylor Cummings is the best player in women’s lacrosse. As predicted in my previous article, clears, turnovers and draw controls were going to determine the outcome of this game. Although the UNC goalies played extremely well the Terrapins were in control for most of this game. Maryland outshot the Tar Heels 32-17 and won a large number of the draws. In fact, no Tar Heel had more than one draw control.

Turnovers and Clears Important for UNC vs Maryland

The defending national champion Maryland Terrapins will face their stiffest competition of the 2015 season on Saturday, February 21st, 2015. The Tar Heels will make the trip to College Park looking to continue their recent success against the Terps. The Tar Heels were the only team to beat the Terps in each of the last two season. Last year the Heels handled the Terps in Chapel Hill and the year prior the Heels beat Maryland to win the national championship.

UNC Sprints Past High Point 19-5

This UNC team is good; very good. There were stretches of the game against High Point in which UNC could not be stopped. The Heels had four goals on the board, three by Molly Hendrick, before the High Point Panthers even got a shot on goal. UNC dominated the draws, played great defense and did about anything they wanted on the freezing cold night of Friday, February 13th, 2015.

UNC Pulls Away From Florida Late

I predicted 15-13 and the Tar Heels ended up winning 17-11. There were many stretches of the game in which it was much closer than the final score. The game was tied at nine with 23 minutes to go in the second half before Brittney Coppa and the Tar Heels pulled away. Over the last 23 minute Coppa scored three goals and the Tar Heels outscored the Gators 8-2. A win at Dizney Stadium is very impressive but what is even more exciting is the response of the Tar Heels after a run by the Florida Gators.

2015 University of Florida vs UNC Preview

On Saturday, February 7th, 2015 the UNC Tar Heels will head to Gainesville to take on the #3 Florida Gators. This has become an annual duel as the two powers seem to always meet in the first few weeks of the season. During UNC’s 2013 championship season they lost to Florida to start the season. Last year, the Tar Heels were coming off that national championship and blew out Florida 20-8 to open the season. It was Sydney Holman’s coming out party as she had five goals. This is the first time the Tar Heels will travel to Dizney Stadium in Gainesville.

Alex Moore Leads Tar Heels Past James Madison 13-9

The first game for the Tar Heels was not the best performance but they got the win. In the first half the Tar Heels struggled to connect on passes that are usually not even a second thought. Turnovers and ground balls plagued the Heels as they went into halftime only leading 6-5. Early in the second half James Madison actually took the lead briefly. When the Tar Heels needed a goal Alex Moore was the one that stepped forward. She scored two man down goals that put the Heels on top mid way through the second half.

Moore added another late in the second half and the Tar Heels ended up finishing the game with a 13-9 victory. During the last five minutes the Heels did not do much offensively as they were just trying to bleed the clock and get out with a win.
